Photography
Maldon has to be the one of the best locations in Victoria for capturing the romance of the gold rush era and natural rugged landscape. Wander past old weatherboard homes, solid stone buildings and decorative shop fronts in this lovingly preserved Australian gold mining town. In recognition of this, in 2006, Maldon was awarded the 'most intact heritage streetscape' by the National Trust. Architecture & Stories
Make the most of some of the local's preferred locations. Affectionately known as 'The Roo', a friendly place where local folk gather. The menu is based on delicious local produce, including wines and meats from Maldon and surrounds. The area is known for big shiraz!
Still below the building there is said to be a series of tunnels, used during the gold rush days to discretely & securely move gold from the Bank onto the coach for transport to Melbourne. Another tunnel was used to take the bodies from the morgue to the Undertakers across the road.

The journey from tumultuous 1850s gold-mining town, through boom times and decline took an unprecedented turn in the 1960s. Between 1964 and 1969 Maldon’s historic 19th and early 20th century buildings and streetscapes were rediscovered, surveyed and declared ‘Notable’ by the National Trust. Once again Maldon was leading the way, this time as a ‘poster child’ for the fledgling heritage conservation movement.
